Subject:  Policy on Consumer Group Identification

Enclosed is a copy of RSB’s policy, developed September 7, 1994, regarding consumer organizations, specifically as to how staff should respond to questions about membership.

I have had limited feedback or discussion with our RSB staff about this issue and would like your opinions. Please complete the attached questionnaire and return it to me by August 1, 1996.

Subject: Policy on Consumer Organizations

Attached is a policy stating RSB’s position on consumer organizations.

In the course of implementing this policy, the question most likely to be asked is "What do we, as RSB staff, say to the consumer who seeks our advice as to which organization we would recommend." The response must be that, as an agency representative, we cannot suggest or recommend one consumer organization over the other or, since it could be construed as a recommendation, divulge to which, if any, consumer organization we belong. We should, however, recommend that consumers contact both organizations, attend their meetings and based upon their own formed opinions, make a decision as to which organization to seek or not to seek membership in.

The attached policy contains a signature line indicating that you have read and understand the policy. Please sign the attached policy or a copy of it and return it to Karen Pigg in Central Office by September 26, 1994.
