Your Rights in Foster Care
Below is a direct breakdown of the Missouri Foster Care Bill of Rights (RSMo 210.564) and Foster Care Education Bill of Rights (RSMo 167.019).
- Placement & Safety:
- Right to live in a safe, clean environment and be treated with dignity.
- Right to keep personal belongings and receive adequate clothing, hygiene products, and food.
- Right to as few placement moves as possible.
- Family & Siblings:
- Right to be placed with your siblings whenever possible (RSMo 210.564).
- Right to regular visits/calls with siblings, parents, and relatives if separated.
- School & Extracurriculars (Normalcy):
- School Stability: Right to stay in your school of origin even if your foster placement changes.
- Participation: Right to play sports, join clubs, attend field trips, and go on sleepovers under the Reasonable and Prudent Parent Standard.
