MO HealthNet for Kids Premium Group Questions
- Why do some MO HealthNet for Kids program participants have to pay a monthly premium?
- The gross income and family size determines whether a premium is required or not. If your gross monthly income and family size fall into the premium categories on the premium chart you will have to pay a premium each month. View Premium Chart.
- Will my premium ever change?
- Yes, there may be times when your premium changes. If your income or family size changes, your premium may go up or down. Every year in July the Premium Chart will change. Your premium will change up or down. The invoice that is due in July for August coverage will be a new amount. It is important to always watch your invoice and pay the correct amount. If the pa yment you send is not enough, your case may close for 6 months.
- Where do I mail my MO HealthNet for Kids premium payment?

You must put your MO HealthNet insurance number (case number/policy number) on the check or money order. You should mail your payment along with the invoice stub for the month you want to pay. If you do not have the correct invoice stub to send you must write on the check or money order what month you are paying for. DO NOT SEND AN OLD INVOICE TO PAY FOR A CURRENT MONTH.
- Can I pay my MO HealthNet for Kids premium over the telephone using my debit card or credit card?
- No, the MO HealthNet Division is not set up to take payments over the telephone. The only way to make a payment is to mail your payment or use automatic withdrawal.
- Where do I call to see if my MO HealthNet for Kids payment was received or if I have questions?

- When is my MO HealthNet for Kids payment due?
- The payment is due fifteen days from the date of premium notice for the next month’s coverage. At the beginning of the month an invoice is mailed to you billing you for the next month’s premium. This invoice states that the payment is due by the 15th of the month. Example: July 1 invoice is for the August premium.
- What happens if my MO HealthNet for Kids payment is late?
If your payment is not received fifteen days from the date of premium notice, a failure to pay notice will be sent to you. This notice will say you have 20 days to pay the premium or coverage may be terminated. If you still do not pay, a Notice of Case Action will be mailed advising that your payment has not been received and giving you hearing rights.
If your family income is more than 225% of the federal poverty level, your case will be closed and your children will be ineligible for coverage for 6 months. If your family income is less than 225% of the federal poverty level, your children will not be covered until you pay the premium.
- What are some of the reasons my MO HealthNet for Kids case could close?
- Your coverage may close if your payment is too low or if the check or money order is not signed or doesn't clear the bank. If we do not receive a corrected payment by the due date the case will close and coverage will be terminated. If your income is above 225% of poverty, your children will not have coverage for six (6) months if payment is not received by the due date.
- What do I do if my income or family size changes?
You must contact the Family Support Division within 10 days if your income or family size changes. After you report a change, you should watch your invoices closely to be sure you pay the right premium amount.

- How do I sign up for automatic withdrawal?
- You need to complete the MO HealthNet Premium Automatic Withdrawal Form. Mark the box that says START, complete and sign the form, attach a voided check, and return the form to the address indicated. When you start or change automatic withdrawal, please allow 30 days for the automatic withdrawal form to be processed. You will continue to receive monthly invoices until the automatic withdrawal is effective. While you continue to receive an invoice you must send a payment for that month. You must do this until the automatic withdrawal becomes effective. Once effective, you will get a reminder each month that the payment was taken from your bank account.
- If I sign up for automatic withdrawal when is the MO HealthNet for Kids payment taken out?
The automatic withdrawals are done on the same day of each month for the next month’s premium. The date of the automatic withdrawal is based on the date the first premium is received. For example, on April 15, the automatic withdrawal is done for May’s premium.
When you start or change automatic withdrawal, please allow 30 days for the automatic withdrawal form to be processed. You will continue to receive monthly invoices until the automatic withdrawal is effective. If you receive a monthly invoice you must send a payment for that month in order to have MO HealthNet coverage.
- If my payment is made by automatic withdrawal what do I do if I change banks or accounts?
- You should complete the MO HealthNet Premium Automatic Withdrawal Form. Mark the box that says CHANGE, complete and sign the form, attach a voided check, and send it to the address on the form. You should allow 30 days for the change to take place. If you have questions about the change call the Premium Collections Unit at 1-877-888-2811.
- If my payment is made by automatic withdrawal, do I need to complete the Automatic Withdrawal Authorization form each month?
- No. Once you sign up for automatic withdrawal you only need to send an Automatic Withdrawal Authorization form to change your account or to stop the automatic withdrawal. If you stop automatic withdrawal or it stops because of a change in your eligibility, you need to send a new form to start it again.
- What happens if I do not have sufficient funds in my account to cover my payment made by check or through the automatic withdrawal?
- It is your responsibility to make sure funds are available to cover your payment.. When funds are insufficient, you will receive an insufficient funds notice with a due date for resubmitting the payment. You can only send a cashier’s check or money order. A personal check will not be accepted. If payment is not received by the due date stated on your insufficient funds notice, your child/childrens coverage will end.
