Legal Aspects of Relative Placements Training
Placement decisions are gigantic puzzles that require the worker to understand the various laws that apply regarding grandparents, other relatives, siblings, “kin” and foster parents as placements for a child. In addition to the law, there are factors that are unique to each child that should be considered when making placement decisions. This training puts these concepts together.
Goals of the training
- Participants will gain knowledge of the laws that affect placement decisions and how they apply throughout the case, from removal to achieving permanency
- Participants will learn how to discuss these laws with FST members and in court
- Participants will be able to document a factual basis for the placement decisions that are made throughout the case and understand that the law requires this
- Participants will be able to apply the various factors to the law when making placement decisions
