Crisis Care Help for Families
Some communities have Crisis Care, which is a free service to families and is designed to alleviate immediate crisis or emergency situations, but is also designed to enhance the family's capability of preventing future crisis or emergency situations from occurring. The goals are to reduce the number of Child Abuse and Neglect (CA/N) Reports and the number of children entering Alternative Care by the prevention of crisis and emergency situations.
Crisis Care is available in Columbia, Florissant, Joplin, Kansas City, Parkville, Springfield, St. Charles, St. Louis, and Wentzville.
What is Crisis Care?
Crisis Care provides temporary care for children whose ages range from birth until their 18 birthday whose parents are experiencing a crisis/emergency situation that requires immediate action for children who may be at risk for child abuse or neglect. Crisis Care facilities provides crisis care services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Some of the services provided to families accessing crisis care services include but are not limited to:
- Providing shelter, food, personal care, medical attention, education assistance, transportation, and developmental activities for the child
- Providing or arranging for mediation services for the family
- Participating and completing assessment/treatment planning with the family to assist with alleviating the stressors the family is experiencing by linking the family to resources and coordinating services with the family
